RELATING TO CORPORATIONS.

Requires domestic and foreign corporations to provide their shareholders with reports of independent expenditures and political contributions.

SB 113

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO THE LABELING OF PRODUCTS.

Clarifies that in calculating whether a product labeled "Made in Hawaii" has met the requirement that at least fifty-one per cent of the wholesale value of the product is added by manufacture, processing, or production within the State, operating and overhead expenses incurred and spent within the State shall be included.  Appropriates funds to promote and develop the "Made in Hawaii" brand.

SB 157

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO CEMETERIES.

Repeals the exemption granted to churches by Act 22, Session Laws of Hawaii 2020, relating to bonding requirements and fee requirements for licenses, renewals, and reinstatements of licenses applicable to cemeteries and funeral trusts.  Clarifies that the Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs shall exempt any cemetery authority from the bonding requirement and the fee requirements for license, renewal, and reinstatement upon proof satisfactory to the Director that the cemetery authority does not sell for financial profit.  Effective retroactively to 09/15/2020.

RELATING TO EQUITABLE GENDER REPRESENTATION ON CORPORATE BOARDS.

Requires publicly held domestic corporations to have gender-diverse boards of directors.  Establishes reporting requirements for the Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.  Establishes penalties.

SB 434

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO INSURANCE.

Requires sponsored captive insurance companies to maintain separate protected cells for separate participant contracts.  Except for risk retention captive insurance companies, authorizes captive insurance companies to apply for an exemption from examination from the insurance commissioner, provided certain conditions are met.  Requires protected cells established by sponsored captive insurance companies to be approved by the Insurance Commissioner.  Authorizes sponsored captive insurance companies to establish and maintain protected cells to insure risks of parties unaffiliated with a participant under certain circumstances.  Requires a participant, through a sponsored captive insurance company, to insure only risks approved by the Insurance Commissioner.

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO THE RESIDENTIAL LANDLORD-TENANT CODE AND CHILDREN'S HEALTH.

Prohibits landlords from recovering possession of a dwelling unit from tenants if habitability of the premises is significantly impaired.  Sets a tenant's liability for rent if habitability of the premises is significantly impaired.  Provides remedies for retaliatory evictions.  Updates landlord-tenant code to ensure a basic level of health housing that will improve health, education, and achievement outcomes for the most vulnerable of children while minimizing long-term costs to the State.
