RELATING TO A FOOD HUB PILOT PROGRAM.

Requires the Department of Agriculture to establish a five-year food hub pilot program to increase access to local food.  Provides for the award of grant funding by qualified applicants wishing to establish or expand a food hub.  Requires reports to the legislature.  Appropriates funds.  Takes effect on 7/1/2112.  (HD1)

RELATING TO WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT.

Establishes the agricultural technology transfer and workforce development program and provides for a coordinator position to provide support for secondary agricultural education and Future Farmers of America programs.  Appropriates funds.  Effective 1/1/2050.  (HD1)

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO HEMP.

Requires the State to seek approval from the federal Department of Agriculture of a state plan to monitor and regulate hemp. Establishes a statutory framework to monitor and regulate hemp. Establishes and appropriates funds for the hemp regulatory special fund. Legalizes the production of hemp and hemp products with a license. Appropriates funds to DOA for monitoring and regulating hemp production. Takes effect on 7/1/2020. (proposed SD1)

URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TO DESIGNATE KUNIA, LEILEHUA PLATEAU, AND POAMOHO AS THE CENTRAL OAHU AGRICULTURAL CORRIDOR AND TO ESTABLISH A LIST PRIORITIZING POTENTIAL AGRICULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS THAT WOULD PROVIDE THE MOST VALUE TO THE STATE.
