A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to the americans with disabilities act.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that it is the policy of the State to ensure that persons with disabilities are provided access to all places of public accommodation.

     SECTION 2.  Chapter 489, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§489-    Places of public accommodation; compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines; required.  All places of public accommodation shall comply with accessibility guidelines established under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, 42 U.S.C. 12101, et seq., as amended."

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
