RELATING TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE.

Requires all state correctional facilities to allow family members to engage in contact visitation with inmates at any state correctional facility during official visiting hours. Provides that the correctional facility shall provide each inmate with the opportunity for a minimum of two in-person, contact visits per week, with each visit lasting at least one hour. (SD1)

RELATING TO LESS THAN LETHAL FORCE.

Requires the Department of Public Safety to review its policies and procedures governing the use of force, weapons, and equipment. Requires the Law Enforcement Standards Board to review the Department's use of force training. Appropriates funds for training, equipment, and related records management for the Department. Effective 7/1/2050. (SD1)

RELATING TO EXPLOSION DETECTION TECHNOLOGY.

Appropriates an unspecified sum to certain county police departments for the purchase and deployment of explosion detection technology to assist departments in locating and responding to explosions caused by illegal use of firearms and fireworks. Effective 7/1/2050. (SD2)

RELATING TO REGISTRATION FEES.

Reduces the annual vehicle registration fee by fifty per cent for disabled veterans who are fifty per cent or more disabled but less than one hundred per cent disabled. Effective 7/1/2050. (SD1)

RELATING TO PRISONS.

Establishes a four-year pilot program and working group within the Department of Public Safety to reduce recidivism by providing business education to inmates. Requires reports to the Legislature. Appropriates funds. Effective 7/1/2050. (SD1)

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony should indicate:

    Testifier's name with position/title and organization;

    The Committee(s) to which the comments are directed;

    The date and time of the hearing; and

    Measure number.

 

While every effort will be made to incorporate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

Testimony submitted will be placed on the legislative website. This public posting of testimony on the website should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
