     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 2250, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII PROMISE PROGRAM PLUS,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to establish and appropriate funds for the University of Hawaii Promise Program Plus to provide scholarships for the unmet direct cost needs of qualified students enrolled in bachelor's degree programs in teaching, health care, social work, or engineering at the University of Hawaii and who commit to work for at least three years in the State following graduation.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from Kamehameha Schools, Americans for Democratic Action, Healthcare Association of Hawaii, and four individuals.  Your Committee received comments on this measure from the University of Hawaii System, Executive Office on Early Learning, Department of Education, Associated Students of the University of Hawaii, and Chamber of Commerce Hawaii.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 2250, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
