A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to the department of business, economic development, and tourism.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The State of Hawaii has formal sister state relations with eighteen foreign states.  Significant anniversaries are planned to be recognized and celebrated in 2020 with Okinawa, Japan and Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and in 2021 with Fukuoka, Japan; Jeju, Korea; and Ilocos Sur, Cebu, and Isabella, Philippines.

     Additional funding for the department of business, economic development, and tourism international sister state relations program is needed to support the business and trade missions; conferences, symposiums, and seminars; and educational and cultural exchanges to be conducted in conjunction with the respective sister state anniversary recognition celebrations.

     The purpose of this Act is to provide support for the international sister state relations program of the department of business, economic development, and tourism.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $100,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 for the support of international sister state relations (BED100).

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of business, economic development, and tourism for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2020.
