A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to native hawaiian affairs.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


SECTION 1. Chapter 26, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"26-    Governor's coordinator on Native Hawaiian affairs. The governor shall appoint the governor's coordinator on Native Hawaiian affairs without regard to chapter 76. The governor's coordinator on Native Hawaiian affairs shall ensure the proper coordination of issues impacting Native Hawaiians and Native Hawaiian cultural and traditional practices between departments and branches of state government. When considering candidates for the position, the governor shall only consider candidates who represent Native Hawaiian culture and tradition and have a strong connection to Native Hawaiian communities throughout the State and a strong understanding of Hawaiian history."

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 for the governor's coordinator on Native Hawaiian affairs.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the office of the governor for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2020.
