STAND. COM. REP. NO.  89-20

Honolulu, Hawaii

                , 2020

RE:   H.B. No. 1667

Honorable Scott K. Saiki

Speaker, House of Representatives

Thirtieth State Legislature

Regular Session of 2020

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Human Services & Homelessness, to which was referred H.B. No. 1667 entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO HEALTH,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to designate the month of October as "Disability Awareness Month:  Employment, Enrichment, and Inclusion".

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Department of Health, Department of Transportation, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Hawaii Civil Rights Commission, and one individual.

Your Committee finds that designating the month of October as "Disability Awareness Month" recognizes the employment challenges and successes of persons with disabilities in the State.  This designation will celebrate and increase awareness of the contributions of workers with disabilities to the public, reinforce the value people with disabilities add to the State's workplaces, and affirm the State's commitment to creating an inclusive community.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Human Services & Homelessness that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1667 and recommends that it pass Second Reading and be referred to your Committee on Judiciary.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Human Services & Homelessness,
