HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

Urging the department of land and natural resources, division of forestry and wildlife to document the history of exemplary contributions made by community members, including kupuna, conservationists, and citizens.

 

 


     WHEREAS, one of the obligations of the State of Hawaii is to document the history of its work; and

 

     WHEREAS, many key community members, kupuna, conservationists, and citizens have played an integral role in the preservation of critical conservation lands; and

 

     WHEREAS, the role of citizen participation in natural resources management should be celebrated and encouraged; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife is urged to document the history of exemplary contributions made by community members, including kupuna, conservationists, and citizens; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife is urged to honor the selected individuals by highlighting their names, backgrounds, and contributions at associated sites without displacing any Hawaiian place names; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife is urged to begin the documentation of exemplary contributions made by community members by choosing a site to honor the story of Marjorie Yasue Fern Ziegler, whose life's work had unparalleled impact on Hawaii's conservation landscape; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife is urged to include on its website the story of each individual who is recognized; the location that the Division of Forestry and Wildlife has selected to honor each individual's story; and why the Division of Forestry and Wildlife selected the location, so that each recognized individual's background and contributions can be memorialized for future generations; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources, and Administrator of the Division of Forestry and Wildlife for the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
