SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the department of business, economic development, and tourism to amend its mission statement to expressly include the development of a business friendly culture in the state.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism is the primary agency tasked with promoting business and economic development in the State; and

 

     WHEREAS, the primary objectives of the department are to create broad policy determinations with respect to economic development in the State and to stimulate opportunities that offer the most immediate promise of expanding the State's economy; and

 

     WHEREAS, supporting existing and emerging businesses; attracting new investment and businesses that can create more skilled, quality jobs in the State; and working to increase exports of state products and services are critical to economic development in the State; and

 

     WHEREAS, in order for existing and emerging businesses to thrive in the State, and to attract new businesses, the State must promote a business friendly culture; and

 

     WHEREAS, the mission statement of the department is a declaration of department priorities and sets the tone for the work of the department, department staff, and the State; and

 

     WHEREAS, the department's current mission statement is "to support the development of a Hawaii economy that embraces innovation; an economy that is globally competitive, dynamic, and productive; and provides opportunities for all Hawaii's citizens"; and

     WHEREAS, it is important that the department expressly include in its mission statement the development of a business friendly culture in the State; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2018, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism is urged to amend its mission statement to expressly include the development of a business friendly culture in the State; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department is urged to consider adopting a mission statement that reads:  "The Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism's mission is to support the development of a Hawaii economy that is business friendly, embraces innovation; an economy that is globally competitive, dynamic, and productive; and provides opportunities for all Hawaii's citizens."; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor and the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism.
