A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to tropic care.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that Tropic Care is a United States Department of Defense program in which military reservists provide free medical services to individuals in rural communities.  The free services provided to rural districts on the island of Hawaii have included physical examinations, dental treatment, eye examinations, eyeglasses, medication review, provision of some medications, and nutritional education.  The Tropic Care program has also provided free transportation so that individuals are able to access the free medical services.  The Tropic Care program has provided needed medical services to thousands of individuals who otherwise would not be able to afford or access medical care. 

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for the Tropic Care program.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $30,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2018-2019 for the Tropic Care program.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2018.
