A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to education.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-    Maximum number of students in a public school classroom.  Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, the maximum number of students assigned to each teacher who is teaching a class in a public school classroom shall not exceed eighteen students per class."

     SECTION 2.  Section 302A-624, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

     "§302A-624  Teachers' salary schedule.  (a)  The salary schedule for all teachers of the department shall be negotiated pursuant to section 89-9[.]; provided that the board shall not agree to any salary for teachers entering the service of the department that is less than $55,000 per year."

     SECTION 3.  This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, penalties that were incurred, and proceedings that were begun before its effective date.

     SECTION 4.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 5.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
