A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


SECTION 1. The state historic preservation division of the department of land and natural resources, in conjunction with the department of taxation, shall conduct a joint study on the viability and costs associated with creating a state tax credit of twenty per cent for historic commercial properties that make historic preservation efforts on their properties, within the meaning of historic preservation as defined in section 6E-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

SECTION 2.  The state historic preservation division, in conjunction with the department of taxation, shall submit a joint report on the study, including findings and recommendations and any proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2018.

     SECTION 3.  There is appropriated out of the         special fund the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2017-2018 for the state historic preservation division to conduct the study pursuant to this Act.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.
