     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 533, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO CHARTER SCHOOLS,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to support public charter schools by appropriating funds to the State Public Charter School Commission for the acquisition, repair, maintenance, and rental of charter school facilities.  Allocation of such funds shall be based, in part, on the need and financial performance of the charter school, as determined by the Commission. 

 

     The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, State Public Charter School Commission, Hawaii Public Charter School Network, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Hawaii State Teachers Association, Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii Children's Action Network, IMUAlliance, Governing Board of Ke Kula O Nāwahīokalaniōpuu Iki LPCS, Hawaii Academy of Arts & Science PCS, DreamHouse Ewa Beach, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Inc., HAASPCS, and numerous individuals testified in support of this measure.  One concerned individual commented on this measure.  


     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 533, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
