RELATING TO PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS.

Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, requires a child to provide written documentation of a physical examination performed within twelve months prior to attending seventh grade at a public school. Requires DOH to provide information to assist students who do not complete the physical exam before December 31 of the seventh grade year and also requires DOH to provide consultations with those students' parents and guardians about health lifestyles and obtaining health insurance. Appropriates funds. (SD2)

RELATING TO CONCUSSIONS.

Expands the concussion educational program established under Act 197, SLH 2012, to include youth athletic activities for participants aged 11 to 18 and incorporate additional program requirements. Appropriates funds to develop and implement the educational program, administer concussion testing to high school student athletes, and implement a concussion awareness and management program for students ages 11-13. (SD2)

Status

RELATING TO TUBERCULOSIS TESTING.

Requires the department of health to accept FDA-approved, CDC-recommended tuberculosis (TB) blood tests in addition to the TB skin test for the purpose of obtaining a certificate of TB examination. Amends the law requiring tuberculosis clearance prior to public school entry to be in accordance with law in addition to department of health rules. Clarifies that the department of health's administrative rules regarding the use of the Mantoux tuberculin skin test or chest x-rays in obtaining a certificate of tuberculosis examination shall remain in effect until amended to include the addition of TB blood tests as an acceptable TB diagnostic. RELATING TO BIRTH DEFECTS.

Authorizes the use of birth defects data for education of health care providers to reduce morbidity or mortality and to increase physicians' knowledge of resources available for families of persons with birth defects. (SD1)

Requires annual influenza vaccinations for health care workers. Establishes exemptions for influenza vaccination requirement under certain conditions.
