A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO CROSSWALKS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 264, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part I to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§264-    Arterial street intersection; crosswalks.  (a)  Any plan or design for a newly constructed, reconstructed, resurfaced, or renovated intersection of two crossing arterial streets shall include a marked crosswalk.  The department of transportation or the county responsible for the construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, or renovation of the intersection shall be responsible for the installation of crosswalks with adequate lighting at the intersection.

     (b)  As used in this section:

     "Arterial street" shall have the same meaning as in section 291C-1.

     "Crosswalk" shall have the same meaning as in section 291C-1.

     "Intersection" shall have the same meaning as in section 291C-1."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050, and shall apply to all intersections subject to this Act for which a plan or design for construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, or renovation of the intersection is commenced on or after the effective date of this Act.
