A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part II to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-    Youth civil defense corps.  (a)  There is established within the department the youth civil defense corps, which shall train high school students to participate in the state emergency response team program.

     (b)  In consultation with the Hawaii emergency management agency, the board shall adopt standards and a curriculum for high school students to participate in the youth civil defense corps in furtherance of their requirements for graduation."

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 for the establishment of the youth civil defense corps within the department of education to train high school students to participate in the state emergency response team program.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.
