A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to the judiciary.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the alternative dispute resolution program, administered by the judiciary, provides processes that offer alternatives to litigation.  Methods of alternative dispute resolution include mediation and arbitration.  The judiciary, through the center for alternative dispute resolution, contracts for mediation services with various community mediation centers throughout the various counties.

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the judiciary to contract for mediation services.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2015-2016 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 for the judiciary to enter into contracts with community mediation centers for mediation services.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the judiciary for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2015.
