MAKING APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE AHA MOKU ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

Appropriates funds for the administrative and operational expenses of the Aha Moku Advisory Committee.  Appropriates funds for the community education on the administrative structure regarding the aha moku system and on natural and cultural resource management.

RELATING TO LEGISLATIVE OVERSIGHT OF PAPAHANAUMOKUAKEA.

Establishes the Papahanaumokuakea Legislative Inspection Committee.  Requires members of the committee to conduct a site inspection of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument every three years.

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Establishes the instructional office of Hawaiian studies for the purpose of providing instruction to public school students on Hawaiian history, culture, arts, and language.  Makes an appropriation for the instructional office of Hawaiian studies.

Establishes the Hawaiian Studies Instructional Office to ensure the provision of instruction in Hawaiian history, culture, arts, and language to students in public schools.

Appropriates funds to further educational programs relating to native Hawaiians and the Hawaiian language and culture.

Establishes the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Legislative Oversight Committee composed of legislators from both houses to ensure transparency and exercise oversight over the operations of and issues impacting the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

Status

RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HAWAIIAN HOME LANDS.

Establishes the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Legislative Oversight Committee to ensure transparency, analyze the effectiveness of its governance, operations, fiscal responsibility and administration of its programs and services, and review any other issues impacting the department.

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing.  Testimony should indicate:

·     Testifier's name with position/title and organization;

·     The Committee(s) to which the comments are directed;

·     The date and time of the hearing; and

·     Measure number.

 

While every effort will be made to incorporate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

FAX:       For testimony less than 5 pages in length, transmit to 808-586-8494 (Oahu) or 1-800-535-3859 (for Neighbor Islander without a computer to submit testimony through the website); or

WEB:     For testimony less than 10MB in size, transmit from http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/submittestimony.aspx.

 

Testimony submitted will be placed on the legislative website.  This public posting of testimony on the website should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
