HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the governor and the mayor of the city and county of honolulu to collaborate in reaching out to oahu schools to encourage field trips to the state capitol and honolulu hale.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, a vital part of the State's and the City and County of Honolulu's legislative process is providing the people with the opportunity to participate in making laws; and

 

     WHEREAS, people who do not understand or are not aware of the legislative process are much less likely to participate in making laws and having their voice heard; and

 

     WHEREAS, education of the legislative process begins in school and a vital part of learning how the Legislature and the City Council operate is witnessing legislators and council members perform their duties; and

 

     WHEREAS, many adults in Hawaii cite a school field trip as the only time they have visited the State Capitol; and

 

     WHEREAS, some teachers experience difficulties in scheduling tours of the State Capitol and Honolulu Hale, are not aware of tours, or are unclear on the importance and lasting effect a single visit to the State Capitol and Honolulu Hale have on students; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, the Senate concurring, that the Governor and the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu are requested to collaborate to increase the level of outreach made to Oahu schools to provide information on and promote field trips to the State Capitol and Honolulu Hale; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor and the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu are requested to cooperate in accommodating school tours so that students may visit the State Capitol and Honolulu Hale on the same day; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor and the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu.
