A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS FOR JUVENILES INVOLVED IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $            or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2013-2014 for an alternative school in the Leeward Oahu school district, including appropriate facilities, curriculum, supplies, and the hiring of necessary staff, to facilitate the ongoing education of juveniles involved in the justice system and other youth, age fourteen and older, who are unable to achieve in a traditional school setting.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $            or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2013-2014 for an alternative school in the Honolulu school district, including appropriate facilities, curriculum, supplies, and the hiring of necessary staff, to facilitate the ongoing education of juveniles involved in the justice system and other youth, age fourteen and older, who are unable to achieve in a traditional school setting.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  The department of education shall develop enrollment criteria and a referral and placement process for the alternative schools funded by this Act.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2013.

Description:
