A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to the university of hawaii.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the University of Hawaii at Manoa's McNair student achievement program provides students with an intensive, faculty-mentored internship and education program designed to prepare students for graduate school.  Participants in the program receive personalized faculty mentoring and other academic services in a culturally and socially supportive environment.  As participants immerse themselves in research and other scholarly projects, college becomes not only a path to a graduate or doctoral degree but a stepping stone to making a vital contribution to their communities.

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to support the University of Hawaii at Manoa's McNair student achievement program and establish two full-time equivalent (2.0 FTE) positions to oversee and administer the program.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $250,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2014-2015 to support the University of Hawaii at Manoa's McNair student achievement program and to establish two full-time equivalent (2.0 FTE) positions within the University of Hawaii at Manoa to oversee and administer the program.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2014.
