HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING THE HIGHLANDS INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM ON WINNING FIRST PLACE IN THE hAWAII STATE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

 

 

 


            WHEREAS, recognizing that the future of the State of Hawaii rests in the hands of our youth who face unique and formidable challenges, the Legislature is proud to acknowledge the achievements of those conscientious and energetic individuals who epitomize the best and brightest of Hawaii's intermediate school students; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Science Olympiad, founded in 2004, is a state affiliate of the National Science Olympiad and is a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of science education for K-12 students in Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, middle and high school students representing 30 different public, private, charter, and home schools competed on Saturday, March 2nd at Leeward Community College in the 9th Annual Statewide Science Olympiad tournament for the opportunity to represent the State of Hawaii at the 29th Annual National Science Olympiad in May 2013; and

 

     WHEREAS, at this year’s Science Olympiad State Finals tournament, students participated in 30 different events covering a wide spectrum of fields related to science, technology, engineering, and math in topics that included astronomy, biology, chemistry, engineering, genetics, medicine, and rocketry; and

 

    WHEREAS, the Highlands Intermediate School Science Olympiad Team proudly represents the Pearl City area and the State of Hawaii through its demonstrated desire for knowledge and commitment to building a collaborative team that excels at problem solving; and

 

WHEREAS, the Highlands Intermediate School Science Olympiad Team placed first overall in Division B (Middle School) of the Hawaii State Science Olympiad while competing in Anatomy, Boomilever, Crime Busters, Disease Detectives, Helicopters, Heredity, Meteorology, Metric Mastery, Mousetrap Vehicle, Reach for the Stars, Rocks and Minerals, Rotor Egg Drop, Shock Value, Water Quality, and Write It Do It,  and will continue on to the 29th Annual National Science Olympiad in May 2013 in Dayton, Ohio; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that this body hereby recognizes and commends the Highlands Intermediate School Science Olympiad Team for its accomplishments, dedication, and service to the community, and extends to the team its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
