SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the governor to proclaim july 13, 2012, as "collector car appreciation day".

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the mobility of the American people is due in no small part to the automobile, which has been a significant and integral part of the American way of life; and

 

     WHEREAS, the automobile industry was a major component in the evolution of America from an agricultural based country into a global industrial leader and showcased the work ethic and productivity of the American worker to the world; and

 

     WHEREAS, the collector car and restoration industry, not only preserves the nation's automobile heritage, but also provides highly paid and skilled employment opportunities; and

 

     WHEREAS, this country's automotive heritage is celebrated annually with parades, car cruises and shows, and special events featuring collector cars and brings together restorers, collectors, and enthusiasts; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Specialty Equipment Market Association, a trade group consisting of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, car clubs, and race teams, has designated July 13, 2012, as "Collector Car Appreciation Day"; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Specialty Equipment Market Association is urging the United States Senate to help launch this year's national "Collector Car Appreciation Day" by passing resolutions, as it did in the last two years, reaffirming the cultural importance of collector cars; and
     WHEREAS, many people in Hawaii restore classic automobiles as a hobby and business and do so with pride and enthusiasm; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Governor is requested to proclaim July 13, 2012, as "Collector Car Appreciation Day"; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor and President of the Specialty Equipment Market Association.
