A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO HEALTH.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that bone marrow transplantation services are not available in the State.  This procedure is used to treat patients with leukemia, aplastic anemia, lymphomas such as Hodgkin's disease, multiple myeloma, immune deficiency disorders, and some solid tumors such as breast and ovarian cancer.

     The purpose of this Act is to implement a new bone marrow transplantation program in the State by appropriating funds as a grant for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children to implement a peripheral blood stem cell/apheresis program.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2012-2013 as a grant pursuant to chapter 42F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children to implement a peripheral blood stem cell/apheresis program.
     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2030.
