TWENTY-SIXTH LEGISLATURE, 2012

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to hunting.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that there is an overpopulation of deer on the island of Lanai.  The department of land and natural resources has set the bag limit for axis deer on the island of Lanai for the 2012 hunting season at one deer per hunter.  Increasing the bag limit would assist in the eradication of axis deer.

SECTION 2.  For any island with a resident population of more than one thousand and less than five thousand, the department of land and natural resources shall establish a bag limit for axis deer for the 2012 hunting season of two deer of either sex per hunter.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
