A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

Relating to CIGARETTEs.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for the implementation of the reduced ignition propensity cigarette certification pursuant to section 134C-4, Hawaii Revised Statutes.  Certified cigarettes are expected to reduce accidental fires and related personal injury and property damage caused by cigarette smoking.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the reduced ignition propensity cigarette program special fund the sum of $400,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for fiscal year 2012-2013 for the purpose of funding one full-time administrator, one full-time assistant, and other costs of fulfilling the requirements of section 132C-4, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of labor and industrial relations.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2012.
