A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to the HAWAII COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to provide for the re-acquisition by the State of certain parcels of land in Kakaako makai.  If re-acquired, the legislature intends that the parcels be developed for medical or scientific uses that contribute to the synergy created in the area by the John A. Burns school of medicine and the University of Hawaii cancer center.

     SECTION 2.  (a)  The Hawaii community development authority shall engage in efforts to re-acquire the parcels of land commonly known as the "makai gateway park" and the "Honolulu Ford parcel" in Kakaako makai.

     (b)  The Hawaii community development authority may re-acquire the makai gateway park and the Honolulu Ford parcel by:

     (1)  Entering into an agreement to exchange the parcels for other parcels owned by the authority, including any outside of Kakaako, such as the Heeia parcels received from the Kamehameha Schools; or

     (2)  Eminent domain or purchase.

     (c)  If the re-acquisition of the makai gateway park and the Honolulu Ford parcel requires public funds, the Hawaii community development authority shall submit a request to the legislature for the necessary appropriation.

     SECTION 3.  If the Hawaii community development authority re-acquires the makai gateway park and the Honolulu Ford parcel, the authority, pursuant to chapter 206E, Hawaii Revised Statutes, shall develop or cause the development of the parcels into medical or scientific uses that contribute to the synergy created in Kakaako makai by the John A. Burns school of medicine and the University of Hawaii cancer center.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
