HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING the FARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM for winning the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Boys Basketball Division II State Championship.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, student participation in athletic competition, a fundamental component of the physical, mental, and emotional development of our youth, fosters perseverance, encourages fellowship, and instills good sportsmanship into the character of Hawaii’s future leaders; and

 

     WHEREAS, committed to outplaying all of its competitors through discipline, teamwork, and positive attitude, the FARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM first won the State Championship title in 1959 and 1960 under coach Bob Ikehara and again in 2008 under its current coach Allan Silva; and

 

     WHEREAS, throughout the 2011 season, the outstanding members of the FARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM have displayed courage, grit, and determination in the face of numerous challenges by utilizing their talents, patience, and hard work to successfully compete with the State's best athletes; and

 

     WHEREAS, demonstrating tremendous teamwork and toughness on and off the court, the FARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM earned two titles, winning the Division II Oahu Interscholastic Association Basketball Championship on February 10, 2011, and capturing the Division II State Basketball Championship on February 19, 2011; and

 

     WHEREAS, the superb accomplishments of the FARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM are due to the fine athletic abilities, sportsmanship, and determination of Paul “Kula” Solomon, Anastacio Lombawa, Clem Rarogal, Barnard DeLeon, Jeffrey Madarang, Michael “Mickey” Kleman, Chadey Callazo, Shane Cabato-Machado, Lancelot “KK” Williams, Tyler Liana, Viane Vaina, J.P. Saycon, Bradley Parras, and Keoni Kiko; and

 

     WHEREAS, while the athletic strengths and personal drive of each team member contributed to their team's triumph, much of its success can also be attributed to the encouragement, support, and years of dedication and guidance of their head coach Allan Silva, who has coached for the past 8 years, along with his right hand man, associate head coach Rocky Sauer, who has coached for the past 6 years, assistant coaches, Kaleo Morton, who continuously adds special motivation for the team and coached for the past 5 years, Len Scaduto, a former Hall of Fame High School Basketball Coach from Chicago, Mike Quartero, who has been coaching for 7 years and is also a High School Football referee, Tony Callazo, a former Star Student Athlete who always brings positive enthusiasm to the team, and Brent Bargamento who has been coaching for the past year, have all helped to make the dream of a Division II Oahu Interscholastic Association Basketball Championship and Division II State Basketball Championship a reality; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, that this body hereby commends and applauds the FARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM for winning the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Hawaii High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball Division II State Championship, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
