HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

URGING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO complete THE implementation of SALT LAKE DISTRICT park MASTER PLAN.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Salt Lake is a suburban neighborhood of Honolulu that was developed in the 1960s during a construction boom; and

 

     WHEREAS, in its early years, Salt Lake provided residents with a view of downtown Honolulu and the sugar plantations of central Oahu; and

 

     WHEREAS, currently, Salt Lake is commonly known for its high-rise condominiums and townhouses, and homes; and

 

     WHEREAS, in addition to the various types of housing, the Salt Lake community is also endowed with large stretches of park lands, a freshwater lake, and a country club; and

 

     WHEREAS, residents and visitors of the Salt Lake and Moanalua communities enjoy and appreciate the beauty and recreation provided by its parks; and

 

     WHEREAS, in the 1980s, Salt Lake District Park was developed as a multi-use recreational facility with playing fields as well as a gymnasium, swimming pool, and meeting rooms, although not all of those improvements were completed; and

 

     WHEREAS, the original Salt Lake District Park Master Plan included a walking and biking trail connecting the Salt Lake District Park to the Ala Puumalu Community Park; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 2002, an update to the Salt Lake District Park Master Plan addressed deficiencies in existing park facilities and proposed development of new facilities; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Salt Lake District Park Master Plan has yet to be completed; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, the Senate concurring, that the City and County of Honolulu is urged to complete the implementation of the Salt Lake District Park Master Plan; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City and County of Honolulu is requested to report its progress to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2012; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Director of the City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Chairperson of the Aliamanu/Salt Lake/Foster Village Neighborhood Board No. 18.
