STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3275

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    S.R. No. 56

Honorable Colleen Hanabusa

President of the Senate

Twenty-Fourth State Legislature

Regular Session of 2008

State of Hawaii

Madam:

Your Committee on Public Safety, to which was referred S.R. No. 56 entitled:

"SENATE RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO IDENTIFY, DURING THE 2009 REGULAR SESSION, TWO POSSIBLE LOCATIONS TO USE AS A HEADQUARTERS SITE FOR THE SHERIFF DIVISION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to request the Department of Public Safety to identify, for consideration during the 2009 Regular Session, two possible locations to use as a headquarters site for the Sheriff Division.

Testimony in support of this measure was submitted by two individual citizens.

Your Committee finds that a primary purpose of the Sheriff Division is to protect the people and property within its jurisdiction.  The identification and subsequent creation of a headquarters site for the Sheriff Division would assist them in carrying out their duties to serve the needs of the public.  A centrally located headquarters for the Sheriff Division on Oahu would enable them to successfully complete their daily responsibilities in a more efficient and effective manner.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Public Safety that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.R. No. 56 and recommends its adoption.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Public Safety,
