STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3612

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    GOV. MSG. NO. 354

Honorable Colleen Hanabusa

President of the Senate

Twenty-Fourth State Legislature

Regular Session of 2008

State of Hawaii

Madam:

Your Committee on Human Services and Public Housing, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 354, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

Board of Directors of the Hawai'i Public Housing Authority (PHA)

G.M. No. 354

TRAVIS O. THOMPSON,

for a term to expire 6-30-2012,

begs leave to report as follows:

Your Committee received written testimony in support of the nominee from the Office of the Governor, the Department of Human Services, the Hawaii Public Housing Authority, a member of the Hawaii Public Housing Authority Board of Directors, Habitat for Humanity Maui, and one private citizen.  Testimony in opposition to the nominee was received from ten private citizens.

The nominee has over forty-five years of management and executive experience in both the public and private sector.   He currently serves as Chair of the Hawaii Public Housing Authority, President of the Wailea Community Association, and Secretary of the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.  His professional background includes experience as the Director of Finance for the County of Maui, a Senior Program Manager for Boeing Commercial Airplane Company, and a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, working as an Auditor.  Additionally, he has served as the former Chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters, and of Maui United Way.

Upon review of the testimony, personal history, and statement submitted by the nominee, your Committee finds that the nominee has the necessary qualifications for reappointment to the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Public Housing Authority.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Human Services and Public Housing that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Human Services and Public Housing,
