SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

encouraging department of education schools to utilize the services of volunteer hawaii to increase community awareness, support, and involvement.

 

 


     WHEREAS, Volunteer Hawaii is a service provided by Aloha United Way in Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, Volunteer Hawaii partners with KITV4, the Honolulu Advertiser, and HeroesTV and is sponsored by Oceanic Digital Phone, Taco Bell Hawaii, Pizza Hut, and the ILWU; and

 

     WHEREAS, Volunteer Hawaii is a virtual volunteer center designed to link the interests of individuals and businesses wishing to provide volunteer services or make donations with available opportunities and organizations throughout Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, Volunteer Hawaii maintains a website that allows individuals and corporations to post listings for volunteer needs and services for which individuals or corporations seeking to make donations or volunteer services may respond; and

 

     WHEREAS, public schools in the State require assistance beyond public funding and staffing in their maintenance, in purchasing equipment, supplies, and services, and in making other necessary improvements to ensure students receive high quality education in safe and nurturing environments; and

 

     WHEREAS, often public schools are not aware of community resources available to support and assist them in their efforts to make improvements and provide services in the schools; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, the House of Representatives concurring, that all Department of Education schools are encouraged to utilize the services of Volunteer Hawaii and its website to allow them to raise community awareness of specific needs and to garner support for their schools and their requirements; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Superintendent of Education and the Chairperson of the Board of Education.
