SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

supporting the "divided we fail" campaign.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, affordable access to health care and long-term financial security are basic needs that all Hawaii residents share; and

 

     WHEREAS, 57 percent of adult residents over the age of 18 in Hawaii believe that health care and long-term care in Hawaii are in a state of crisis, or have major problems; and

 

     WHEREAS, all of Hawaii’s people should have choices when it comes to long-term care, allowing them to maintain their independence at home or in their communities with expanded and affordable financing options; and

 

     WHEREAS, Hawaii's residents should also be provided with financial incentives to save, have access to effective retirement plans, and be able to keep working and contributing to society regardless of age; and

 

     WHEREAS, Americans of all ages should have access to tools to help manage their finances and save for the future, as well as to concise, easy-to-understand information to help them increase their financial literacy and manage their money wisely; and

 

     WHEREAS, individuals, businesses, health care providers, nonprofit organizations, and government must work together to find solutions to these issues; and

 

     WHEREAS, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Business Roundtable, National Federation of Independent Businesses, and the Service Employees International Union have committed to launching the "Divided We Fail" campaign, an effort that engages millions of Americans to call upon their elected leaders to work together across party lines to provide answers, action, and accountability on these issues; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Legislature joins Hawaii's Congressional delegation in supporting the "Divided We Fail" campaign; and

 

     BE IF FURTHER RESOLVED that the mayors and county council of each county are also urged to support the "Divided We Fail" campaign; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to each member of Hawaii's Congressional delegation, the Governor, mayor of each county in Hawaii, county council chair for each county in Hawaii, President of AARP, President of the Business Roundtable, Chair of the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and the President of the Service Employees International Union.
