HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

REQUESTING THAT THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII CREATES A TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION EXTENSION SERVICE.

 

 

 


      WHEREAS, in this global economy, the people and businesses of the United States need to remain current on the various technological developments to remain competitive; and

 

      WHEREAS, in the past, when there was a need to educate the average citizen outside of formal classrooms, an extension of the local university was established to provide a service that enabled consumers to keep up-to-date with trends and evolving technology; and

 

     WHEREAS, this "Extension Service" also enabled universities to attract additional funding for research activities that would directly benefit consumers; and

 

     WHEREAS, our location at the hub of the Pacific and our unique way of life put us in a position to be a model for innovative thinking throughout the world; and

 

     WHEREAS, growing environmental concerns as well as the need for renewable energy amplify the need for new ideas that can lead our state towards being more self-sustaining as well as providing a competitive employment base; now, therefore

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-Fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, that the University of Hawaii System is requested to create a Technology and Innovation Extension Service; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the educational opportunity provided by the Technology and Innovation Extension Service be available to those who are not enrolled as students; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the researched based information provided by the Technology and Innovation Extension Service shall be free to all those who seek it; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Technology and Innovation Extension Service should stimulate the use of new technology and spur innovation as a means to sustain and enhance our way of life; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor of the State of Hawaii and the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii.
