HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

requesting the office of hawaiian affairs to televise the general meetings of the board of trustees of the office of hawaiian affairs.

WHEREAS, television and newsprint play an important role in keeping the public informed of the daily events in the state; and

WHEREAS, `OLELO Community Television has televised selected proceedings of the State Legislature and the Honolulu City Council, thereby keeping the general public informed of the major issues that affect their daily lives and the decisions made by their elected officials; and

WHEREAS, it is important that the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) televise its general and committee meetings of OHA trustees to keep the native Hawaiian community informed of major issues that affect them; and

WHEREAS, print media can only provide a general accounting of issues discussed at these meetings, while televised meetings allow the public to view the actual proceedings; and

WHEREAS, complaints have been made by native Hawaiian communities that they remain uninformed regarding the activities at OHA because their general meetings are not televised; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, the Senate concurring, that the Office of Hawaiian Affairs is requested to televise the general meetings of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
