A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A SALARY INCREASE FOR TEACHERS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, there is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $        , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008, and the same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009, to provide a two per cent salary increase for each fiscal year for all teachers, as that term is defined under section 302A-101, Hawaii Revised Statutes, who are employed by the department of education; provided that the salary increase shall also include a cost of living adjustment at least equal to the rate of inflation (since the most recent salary increase) as determined by the United States of Bureau of Labor Statistics' consumer price index of Honolulu.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.
