HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

congratulating and commending kanoe kamana`o for her numerous accolades and noteworthy CONTRIBUTIONS to the university of hawaii at manoa rainbow wahine volleyball team.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, of any athletic endeavor, the sport of volleyball encourages excellence in character, teamwork, and discipline, along with the subsequent development of one's moral, intellectual, and physical potentials, thereby promoting greater success in all other areas of life; and

 

     WHEREAS, from an early age, KANOE KAMANA`O demonstrated considerable talent and athletic prowess as a member of Iolani School's state championship volleyball team, garnering numerous awards as a four-time all-league and all-state setter, league player of the year during her junior and senior years, and MVP of the 2003 Junior Olympics, to name a few such distinctions; and

 

     WHEREAS, following her successful tenure at Iolani, KANOE KAMANA`O continued to build upon her considerable gifts as a setter for the University of Hawaii at Manoa Women's Volleyball team, distinguishing herself as National Freshman of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, since which time she has averaged an unprecedented 13 ½ assists, 2 ½ digs, and one block per game; and

 

     WHEREAS, throughout the remainder of her career at the University of Hawaii, KANOE KAMANA`O has since become the most decorated setter in the history of the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team, earning AVCA Division I first team All-America honors, first team all-WAC and all-West Region honors, and the WAC Player of the Year award as a sophomore; followed by AVCA third team All-America honors, the WAC Player of the Year award, all-WAC and all-West Region honors, and the 2005 Joe Kearney Award as WAC's top female athlete in any sport as a junior; and

     WHEREAS, during her senior year as a Rainbow Wahine, KANOE KAMANA`O was again selected to the AVCA All-America first team for her significant accomplishments on the court, the only such player among those honored to have been named a four-time All-American, and named WAC Player of the Year for the third consecutive year in a row, signifying a remarkable capstone to an already illustrious record of achievement that includes holding UH records of 1st in assists per game, 3rd in digs, 5th in block assists, 1st in total assists, and 7th in total blocks, not to mention ranking 7th in total assists in NCAA history and 1st in leading assists in WAC history; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body hereby congratulates KANOE KAMANA`O for her numerous accolades and noteworthy contributions to the University of Hawaii at Manoa Rainbow Wahine volleyball team, and extends to her its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
