A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR HOMELESS SHELTER PROGRAMS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that homelessness is a problem that affects the community's health and public safety on the island of Hawai‘i.  This appropriation is intended for shelter program operators to provide for repair, renovation (including compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act), upgrade, and expansion of homeless shelter programs.

These moneys are to be administered by the Hawai‘i county office of housing and community development.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $3,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008, to support homeless shelter programs in the county of Hawai‘i.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the county of Hawai‘i for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.
