HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

requesting the chief of police of the city and county of honolulu to increase police staff and presence and to respond faster to calls for police in waipahu.

 

 

WHEREAS, the residents of Waipahu have been regularly and consistently subjected to neighborhood disturbances where groups of individuals congregate on the streets, obstructing pedestrian movement and boisterously playing games of chance on the sidewalks and conducting other illegal activities; and

WHEREAS, Waipahu neighborhood residents have consistently called for police to put a stop to these activities, and these activities have escalated to a point where they have been the subject of neighborhood board discussions; and

WHEREAS, to date, police response has been slow and there has been no real change in the situation; and

WHEREAS, Waipahu does not have a police station and, consequently, suffers from slower police response times than in other areas of Oahu, such as Waikiki; and

WHEREAS, there is an insufficient number of police staff patrolling the streets of Waipahu; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2005, the Senate concurring, that the Chief of Police of the City and County of Honolulu is requested to allocate an increase in police staff to serve the Waipahu neighborhood and to improve its response time to calls for police in Waipahu; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chief of Police of the City and County of Honolulu, the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, and the Chairperson of the Neighborhood Board of Waipahu.
