HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

1067

TWENTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2005

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

making an appropriation for the king kamehameha celebration floral parade.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that King Kamehameha was one, if not the, most revered warriors in Hawaiian history, for it was under his leadership that the Hawaiian islands were united into the Kingdom of Hawaii. As Hawaii's first king, he is honored with a special day in June of each year. Part of the annual celebration has been the King Kamehameha celebration floral parade with many colorful floral floats, marching bands, and pa'u riders participating in the parade to commemorate him. Sadly, due to reduced funding, the parade has been drastically downsized and has been at risk of being canceled.

The purpose of this Act is to ensure that the parade in memory of this great king continues.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2005-2006, and the same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, to provide funding for the King Kamehameha celebration floral parade.

SECTION 3. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of accounting and general services for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
