THE SENATE

S.R. NO.

34

TWENTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE, 2004

STATE OF HAWAII

SENATE RESOLUTION

Requesting the University of Hawaii Athletic Department TO examine the feasibility of abolishing the aloha stadium authority and transferring its functions to the University of Hawaii.

WHEREAS, Aloha Stadium is the venue for a wide variety of events including the Pro Bowl, high school athletics, swap meets, and musical concerts; and

WHEREAS, the entity that uses the facility most often, however, is the Division I N.C.A.A. football team of the University of Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, it may be more efficient administratively to give control over the facility to the entity that makes the most use of it; and

WHEREAS, it is likely that such a transfer would not deleteriously impact the continued mixed use of the stadium; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-Second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2004, that the Athletic Department of the University of Hawaii is requested to conduct a study examining the feasibility of abolishing the Aloha Stadium Authority and transferring its functions to the University of Hawaii; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Hawaii Athletic Department is requested to submit its findings to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2005; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chair of the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii, President of the University of

Hawaii, Athletic Director of the University of Hawaii, and Director of the Aloha Stadium Authority.
