RESOLUTION
requesting the department of business, economic development, and tourism, the state film office, the university of hawaii, other state agencies, and other interested parties to work together to establish an annual international animation film festival.
WHEREAS, in this highly media-conscious age, animation films are a medium of entertainment and education that are widely enjoyed by a diverse cross-section of society; and
WHEREAS, the production, distribution, and exhibition of such films provide communities with valuable opportunities for the cultural edification and economic development of their local populations, as well as cultural tourism for those from outside the community; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii has a vigorous film and video production, distribution, and exhibition sector that is assuming an ever-increasing importance in the economic and cultural life of the State; and
WHEREAS, an annual international animation film festival would be of great value in consolidating the importance of that sector in Hawaii and in promoting cultural tourism; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-Second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2004, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the State Film Office, the University of Hawaii, other state agencies, and other interested parties are requested to work together to establish an international animation film festival; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State Film Office is requested to convene a meeting open to all interested parties by July 1, 2004, with representatives from the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the State Film Office, and the University of Hawaii, to formally begin this collaboration; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the Director of the State Film Office, and the President of the University of Hawaii.
