A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to the island of kahoolawe.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general funds of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2003-2004; provided that no funds shall be made available under the Act unless matched dollar-for-dollar from sources other than the general fund, for the development and implementation of a strategy for the use of alternative energy resources to address the current and future energy needs of the island of Kahoolawe as follows:

(1) The establishment of ten data collection sites;

(2) The development of an alternative energy system for a model encampment; and

(3) The continued evaluation of long-term alternative energy solutions.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the Kahoolawe island reserve commission for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2003.
