A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to ceded land revenues.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 10, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§10- Pro rata equivalent to ceded land revenues obtained from revenues generated at the Honolulu international airport and due to the office of Hawaiian affairs. (a) Beginning with fiscal year 2002-2003, the State shall pay at the beginning of each succeeding fiscal year, an amount equal to the pro rata share of ceded land revenues derived from the Honolulu international airport to the office of Hawaiian affairs.

(b) The State may utilize the general revenues of the State, general obligation bonds, or any other financial means available to the State, whichever is authorized by the legislature, to pay the amount owed under subsection (a) to the office of Hawaiian affairs."

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2003-2004, to be transferred to the office of Hawaiian affairs for the purposes of section 1 of this Act.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the office of Hawaiian affairs.

SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval, provided that section 2 shall take effect on July 1, 2003.
