A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to charter schools.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part IV, subpart D, to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§302A-     Establishment of residency for e-charter school. No student, other than a student who is a resident of the State, may enroll in an e-charter school. The department may adopt rules in accordance with chapter 91 to define the term "resident of the State" and carry out the purposes of this section.

As used in this section, an "e-charter school" is a new century charter school in which the primary medium of instruction between teacher and student is long-distance communication done by computer or other electronic device."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
