A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to the island of kahoolawe.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $500,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2003-2004, for the implementation of a strategy for utilization of alternative energy resources to address the current and future energy needs of the island of Kahoolawe, including the establishment of ten data collection sites, the development of an alternative energy system for a model encampment, and the ongoing evaluation of long-term alternative energy solutions.

SECTION 2. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the Kahoolawe island reserve commission for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2003.
