A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

Relating to lobbyist membership.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 

SECTION 1. Chapter 97, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new part to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

PART . LIMITS ON BECOMING A LOBBYIST

97- Limits on becoming a lobbyist. (a) A person shall not be allowed to register as a lobbyist, nor perform the actions of a lobbyist, for three consecutive years following their employment as an employee, elected official, legislator, or appointee of the State of Hawaii. A person may register to work as a lobbyist in the State three years after the date of termination of the above employment.

(b) Any person who is found to be in violation of this section shall be subject to penalties in section 97-7."

SECTION 2. This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, penalties that were incurred, and proceedings that were begun, before its effective date.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
