A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to consumer protection.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 481B, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§481B-   Hotel telephone charges and rates; disclosure. Every keeper of a hotel, motel, inn, boarding house, lodging house, guest house, or other type of facility providing for transient or public lodging, that makes available for public use telephone or other telecommunications equipment, shall conspicuously display on or near the telephone or telecommunications equipment, a statement of the actual cost amount of the charges or rate of charges being assessed by the facility for the use of the equipment. If the applicable charges or rates are based upon the charges or rates of a public utility telecommunications provider, written disclosure of the cost amounts of these rates shall be posted publicly and conspicuously at the place maintained for the registration of guests."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
