A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to public employee health benefits.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 87A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§87A- Enrollment of retired employee-beneficiaries whose spouses are not retired employee-beneficiaries. (a) To enable maximum participation in medicare contract plans offered by health care providers, the board shall offer to a retired employee-beneficiary whose spouse is not a retired employee-beneficiary the option to enroll in health benefits plans offered by the fund as individual plan members or as a family.

(b) The board shall adopt rules in accordance with chapter 91 to effectuate this section."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
